Gift Given to the ASTEC Art Department
The ASTEC Art Department recently received a generous gift from the Chihuly Studios. Dale Chihuly is one of the most prolific, talented, and famous artists in the world. He is a glass sculptor whose work can be found all over the world in museums, galleries, hotels, and major corporations. The Oklahoma City Museum of Art is honored to house the world's largest permanent exhibit of Dale Chihuly's art. Mr. Jon Corea, ASTEC's art teacher wrote Chihuly Studios to inquire the possibility of having one of the artists on the Chihuly team speak to his students via a web camera. They quickly replied regretting that due to tight deadlines they were unable to grant the request at this time. Instead they graciously donated a classroom set of Dale Chihuly's book, Team Chihuly. With these books the students will be able to study Chihuly's art giving them the background knowledge they need before hopefully visiting the Oklahoma City Art Museum later this year.

Jon Corea, ASTEC Art Teacher receives the Innovation in Education grant through Cox Communications.
The ASTEC art department is a recipient of the Innovation in Education grant through Cox Communications. The award is for $5000. The grant will be used to purchase art supplies. This grant will initiate a platform for students to display their artwork in conjunction with the Oklahoma State of Creativity project. The Oklahoma State of Creativity project is a project that showcases the large amount of creative talent that Oklahoma encompasses. Students will take digital slides of their artwork and display their artwork on the website www.stateofcreativity.com. Each artwork will be for sell. 50% of the money the artwork is sold for will be put into an account that will be used to buy art supplies for future classes. The remaining 50% of the money made will be given to the students. This will be an exciting program that will highlight the amazing talent and hard work.
