A virtual program is a complete online learning solution for students in grades 9 through 12. The rigorous courses are correlated to the Oklahoma state PASS standards and assist students in catching-up, advancing and graduating on time using the internet. Our curriculum is enhanced by our experienced and certified teaching staff in order to meet the needs of a diverse population of students.
ASTEC Charter High School Virtual Program Online students are supported with a 24/7 learning environment hosted by teachers and teaching assistants and using a variety of communication tools (E-mail, online instant messaging and telephone).
*State End of Instruction (EOI) tests must be taken on-site and these tests must be taken for the student to receive their diploma.
Who should attend a virtual program?
· Students with personal obligations or scheduling constraints.
· Students with college preparatory goals that require accelerated classes the school is unable to provide.
What is the cost of taking online courses?
There is NO COST for 9-12th grade Oklahoma students who are legally transferred into ASTEC Charter Schools (via Oklahoma City Public Schools District Office) as full-time students. The transfer papers must be delivered in person to the Oklahoma City Public Schools Student Services Office located at 900 N. Klein, Oklahoma City 73106. The same funding used for traditional students can be used for ASTEC Charter High School Virtual Program Online students; therefore there is no fee for taking online courses for most students.
Transfer Student Enrollment for 2008-2009 is currently open. Students seeking an "open" transfer" need to have the transfer papers in no later than April 1 of the year in which they wish to enroll. After April 1, all transfers will be considered an "emergency" transfer".
*Students enrolled in other districts and/or in other states may take courses by paying a fee. Since the ASTEC Charter High School Virtual Program Online is accredited, most districts will accept credit taken through our online school. However, the student should meet with their own school counselor/registrar to be sure the credit will be accepted at their particular school.
Traditional ASTEC Charter School students may enroll in additional credits through the virtual school for a fee upon recommendation from their school counselor.
What are the requirements to graduate from an online program?
Requirements for an online program and traditional school are the same. Please see attachment for complete requirements for ASTEC Charter High School Virtual Program Online and the State of Oklahoma. A graduation plan and worksheet is also available.
