He has taught or coached students from levels Kindergarten through twelve and has also been an elementary and secondary principal. Mr. McMillan has lived and taught in Oklahoma all his life. He loves his family, his state, his country, and his students.

Ms. MeLynn Massey- Middle School Co-Teacher

MeLynn Massey was born in Wichita, Kansas but grew up in the Rose Hill, Kansas school district.  Following graduation, she pursued a degree Business and Communication and graduated May 2001.    She moved to Oklahoma in order to teach and finished her M.S. in Teaching, Learning and Leadership with an emphasis in Special Education past spring, from Oklahoma State University.

This is MeLynn’s second year teaching at ASTEC, in which she will teach 6th Grade Explorer and after school drama.  She will still also remain over the Special Services at the Middle School level.

MeLynn was a Paraprofessional in Pittsburg, Kansas for a year and has substitute taught in several school districts in Kansas and Oklahoma for the past eight.   She was a youth leader for several years; all of these have given her the opportunity to learn a great deal about teaching.  Through these experiences she has been able to develop several new techniques for the students to get involved in their studies so that they are motivated to do it right, along with getting it done in a timely manner.   She believes that it does take time to develop these relationships and to learn how to effectively work with a diverse student population.  MeLynn also believes that all children can learn how to be independent and think on their own.  They just need to take responsibility for their actions and their learning behaviors.

Her dog, Samson, greets her every evening after school.  He is a Chihuahua/ Dachshund and has one ear that sticks up.  Everyone thinks this is adorable.

Ms. Pamela McWherter- Middle School Reading Teacher

Pam McWherter
is a graduate of SWOSU in Weatherford, OK, with a Masters Degree in Education with certification as a reading specialist, Health & PE and business.

Ms. McWherter taught and coached in the Padre Island area for the past 20 years before moving back to Oklahoma two years ago. In addition to teaching in the US, Ms. McWherter also gained teaching experience in the Middle East.  She worked for the American schools in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates in 1983 and 1984 and again in 1997/98 in Doha, Qatar.  She feels that her travels have been of great benefit to her teaching skills.

Wherever she has lived, Ms. McWherter has always called Oklahoma home.

Mr. Cory Pocock- Middle School Physical Education Teacher

Cory Pocock
graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma in May 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health & Physical Education.  Cory believes installing lifetime activity skills into every student is important in order to assist them in maintaining a high quality of life.  It is not just about sport skills.  Every student should be able to find a physical activity they enjoy and perform throughout their life.  Cory wishes to educate the students in identifying their activity.

Cory coached club level competitive soccer for many years and has coached at Bishop McGuiness High School the past three years.  In addition to his degree in Health & Physical Education, Cory has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 1992 and a Master degree in Criminal Justice Administration in 1994 from Oklahoma City University.  Cory worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons for six years.

Mr. Mario Roldan- Middle School Spanish Teacher

Mario Roldan
joined ASTEC in July 2007 and is one of the newest members of the faculty.  He earned his B.A. in Philology, otherwise known as Spanish Linguistics and Literature, from the University of Costa Rica. Before becoming a Spanish teacher in ASTEC, he tutored students in all levels of educations, has taught in the Upward Bound Program in Oklahoma, and is a current faculty member of the Modern Languages Department at the University of Central Oklahoma.

An educator proud of his profession, his main goal is to inspire others to learn foreign languages, particularly Spanish.  However, his approach not only encompasses the traditional grammar and spelling, but also the culture and literature that make up the Latin American and Spanish identities.

While Mr. Roldan misses his home and the beaches in Costa Rica, he has learned to appreciate and enjoy the differences between both countries.  An avid reader, he prefers spending time at different bookstores and public libraries, particularly the Edmond Public Library where he feels at home.
