Welcome to ASTEC . . . . . "Dream and Believe, Learn and Achieve"

Middle School Administration Office

Ms. Misti Ashford- Middle School Principal

Misti Ashford
grew up in Southeastern, Oklahoma and attended college at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha.  It was while attending Interdisciplinary Courses at USAO that she learned to appreciate cross-curriculum instruction. Ashford earned her degree in communications and was named editor of a small national magazine that covered the sport of rodeo prior to graduation.  She also co-founded a small marketing firm that specialized in promoting equine events primarily on the East Coast.  Ashford then began working at Government Information Tracking (GIT) as editor of Capitol Network News a daily newsletter that covered the Oklahoma state legislature.  Although marketing and writing have always been close to her heart, a short stint as a substitute teacher in a rural public school convinced her to explore education.  She has worked as a teacher, curriculum coordinator and finally as a middle school principal at ASTEC since its second year as a charter school.

Mr. David Wheeler- Middle School Assistant Principal

David was born and raised in Oklahoma City. He attended Oklahoma City Public Schools until 6th grade when he went to Sacred Heart Catholic School and then on to Mount Saint Mary High School. He graduated high school in 1989 from Newton High School in Newton New Jersey.

He has a Bachelors Degree in Organizational Management (2000) from Vanguard University in Southern California and a Masters in Educational Leadership (2004) from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma.  He has served our country in the Oklahoma Air National Guard and the California Army National Guard.

David has been teaching for over 8 ½ years in California, Missouri, and the Oklahoma City area. He has been a basketball coach on all levels and has also coached baseball, girls fast pitch softball, football, and has been an athletic director.  He is excited about starting his new educational career as an assistant principal at ASTEC Middle School.

He has been married to Andrea Wheeler for 17 years and has two children, Haley and Gabriel. In his spare time David loves to watch the Oklahoma Sooners and has started to run marathons and participate in triathlons around Oklahoma.

Pat Pena believes that all human beings have the capacity to change, especially young people.  She sincerely believes in being a motivating and encouraging  influence on youth.
