Middle School Elective Teachers

Mr. Jon Corea- Middle School Art Teacher

Jon Corea
is a graduate of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha Oklahoma. He is a native Oklahoman and plans to never leave.

He has been married for eight years and has a six-year-old daughter. He is experienced in all mediums of the art world including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture, and ceramics. He continues a working artist lifestyle when not teaching for private buyers and art shows.

In the classroom his teaching style is rooted in making his students better problem solvers and harder workers.

Mr. Ron McMillan- Middle School Physical Education Teacher

Ron McMillan
is a graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma with a B.S. degree in Education, with an emphasis on P.E., math and science. Mr. McMillan has had thirty-two years of teaching experience. In addition to teaching, Mr. McMillan coached high school sports. He has been selected as Oklahoma High School Coach of the Year twice, once in basketball and once in baseball. He has coached several state championship teams. Mr. McMillan's wife, sister, mother and father have also been teachers. As you can see, Mr. McMillan comes from a strong professional education background. He has taught or coached students from levels Kindergarten through twelve and has also been an elementary and secondary principal. Mr. McMillan has lived and taught in Oklahoma all his life. He loves his family, his state, his country, and his students.

Ms. Pamela McWherter- Middle School Reading Teacher

Pam McWherter
is a graduate of SWOSU in Weatherford, OK, with a Masters Degree in Education with certification as a reading specialist, Health & PE and business.

Ms. McWherter taught and coached in the Padre Island area for the past 20 years before moving back to Oklahoma two years ago. In addition to teaching in the US, Ms. McWherter also gained teaching experience in the Middle East.  She worked for the American schools in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates in 1983 and 1984 and again in 1997/98 in Doha, Qatar.  She feels that her travels have been of great benefit to her teaching skills.

Wherever she has lived, Ms. McWherter has always called Oklahoma home.

Mr. Mario Roldan- Middle School Spanish Teacher

Mario Roldan
joined ASTEC in July 2007 and is one of the newest members of the faculty.  He earned his B.A. in Philology, otherwise known as Spanish Linguistics and Literature, from the University of Costa Rica. Before becoming a Spanish teacher in ASTEC, he tutored students in all levels of educations, has taught in the Upward Bound Program in Oklahoma, and is a current faculty member of the Modern Languages Department at the University of Central Oklahoma.

An educator proud of his profession, his main goal is to inspire others to learn foreign languages, particularly Spanish.  However, his approach not only encompasses the traditional grammar and spelling, but also the culture and literature that make up the Latin American and Spanish identities.

While Mr. Roldan misses his home and the beaches in Costa Rica, he has learned to appreciate and enjoy the differences between both countries.  An avid reader, he prefers spending time at different bookstores and public libraries, particularly the Edmond Public Library where he feels at home.
