Welcome to ASTEC . . . . . "Dream and Believe, Learn and Achieve"

Congratulations to Keith Blackston, ASTEC Charter Middle School's
Teacher of the Year 2008-2009!

Mr. Keith Blackston- 7th Grade Mathematics Teacher

Keith Blackston
grew up in the St. Louis area all of the way through high school.  He then moved to Oklahoma, working in the retail business for about 15 years and as a contractor for utility companies for about six years.  He has been married for 19 years and has four children, ages ranging from seven to fifteen.

Although he was working in other fields he realized that it was his calling to get into teaching, so he decided to go back to school in 2001.  In the spring of 2006 he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Family Studies at Southern Nazarene University, and received an award for distinguished achievement (voted on by his peers and instructors).

This will be Mr. Blackston's second year teaching at ASTEC. Last year he taught 8th Grade U.S. History and 7th Grade Health and was involved in the after school programs.  This year he is looking forward to teaching 7th Grade Math and once again having the opportunity to work with students in after school programs.

Mr. Blackston enjoys spending time with his family and friends, as well as playing and watching a wide variety of sports.  His favorite team is the St. Louis Cardinals (2006 World Series Champions!!!) and he will find ways to tie them into a couple of lessons during the school year.  He has a passion for working with middle school students and desires to see them succeed and grow into lifelong learners and quality individuals.

Congratulations to Vickie Kastl, ASTEC Charter High School's
Teacher of the Year 2008-2009!

Ms. Vickie Kastl- High School English Teacher

Vickie Kastl
will be teaching Advanced Placement Senior English, Advanced Placement Junior English, Sophomore English and Speech.

Ms. Kastl received her B.A. in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1976, and Advanced Placement English certification from the University of Oklahoma and the University of Tulsa. Ms. Kastl holds a Secondary and Primary English and Art Education Degree and has taught at the secondary level for thirty-three years.

Ms. Kastl and her husband, Tom, have raised four sons ages thirty to age twenty-two and they celebrated their thirty-fifth wedding anniversary this summer. In addition to her four sons, Ms Kastl dotes on her Tibetan Spaniel, Winnie Mae, and her grand-puppy, Ritchie, a Chinese Pug. Ms Kastl is an avid reader, illustrator, and OU sports enthusiast.

Ms. Kastl retired in May 2008, from Yukon Public Schools and is excited to be at ASTEC Charter School.
